Wat Chedi Luang is, needless to say, one of the most representative temples in Chiang Mai. As its name suggests, the huge chedi is the most striking feature, but in this post I am sharing images of the main hall in front of it.
This hall is also well known. From the entrance, you can see three Buddha statues standing beyond a row of thick pillars that support the high ceiling.
The large central statue is worshipped as Phra Chao Attarot. I believe the posture of this statue is called “Pang Ham Yat,” which literally means “calming a dispute among relatives,” and it is said to give a sense of reassurance.
Even without knowing this meaning, I think you will naturally feel a sense of calm when you see these three statues in person. They have that kind of presence.
The images shared here were taken in July 2010, so please note that the current condition may be slightly different.
