I am sharing images of Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai Historical Park. These photos were taken in January 2009.
Sukhothai is one of my favorite places in Thailand, and I have visited it many times. However, I have only gone there twice specifically for photography in the historical park. Even so, I have a large number of images of Wat Mahathat, so this will be part 1. I plan to share part 2 and part 3 on another occasion.
As for the temple itself, it is so well known that I do not have much to add.
One suggestion, If your main purpose is to visit the historical park, it may be better to stay near the park rather than in Sukhothai town. This is probably obvious, but if your hotel is close to the park, you can start early in the morning, which is very convenient. I am not sure about the current situation, so please check for details, but when I visited, I was able to enter the park before 7 a.m. each time, and it was easy to rent a bicycle near the entrance.
January is one of the best seasons to travel in Thailand. In the morning, the air was slightly cool and very comfortable. Riding a bicycle in that weather felt refreshing and enjoyable.
However, the park is very large, and many rental bicycles are not in good condition, so it can be a bit difficult to explore by bicycle during the day. For this reason, I usually rent a motorbike to get around the park and nearby areas. There is not much traffic, and the roads are generally good, so in my opinion, this is the best option in terms of cost and overall satisfaction.
